This year the 2024 Queensland PGA championship was hosted at the Nudgee Golf Club, and as a main sponsor Imperial Bullion put up the ultimate prize on the 18th tee – a 1kg Gold Bar to the first player who could hit a hole-in-one shot on the final day of the tournament.
The rules were simple: On Sunday 3rd, the Hole-In-One Challenge activates on the Par 3 18th. Each player is allowed one attempt in their round; whoever hits the golden shot first takes home the bullion bar!
Initially billed as a $125K Challenge, the sponsorship signage called for a quick update as gold prices had soared since printing, with players now looking at a $135K Challenge as they teed up. The bar itself also went through a fun journey from vault to green, captured in the video below.
With the Imperial crew down at the club to watch on the final day, anticipation levels were running high. A few players came excruciatingly close throughout the day, however unfortunately no one was able to hit the winning mark, so the gold bar returned home to our head office in Hamilton.
Despite no golden shot, it was an excellent weekend spent getting behind a great Queensland event. Suffice to say there will be plenty more golden opportunities like this to come.
